Mother's Day

A mother's love for her children is unique in nature. She feeds you but goes hungry. She protects you at the risk of her own welfare. She loves you no matter what you look like. She's proud of you even when you feel like a failure. And she never asks for anything in return. So don't forget to let your Mom know how much you really do love her and appreciate all she's done for you. That's all she really wants in return anyway. Just a simple 'Thank you' and 'I love you'. That's not too much to ask for.

Freak of Lightning

On Tuesday evening about nine o'clock, during the progress of the storm, many of the citizens of Phillipsburg, were startled by a loud, quick report, and those who happened to be out were blinded by a most vivid flash of lightning. It struck the double brick house on Brainerd street, just below Hudson, occupied by Mr. Weightman and Mr. Putman, passing obliquely through Weightman's roof, scorching the rafters, and down through Putnam's into the kitchen, jumping from a nail, bored a whole[sic] through a dripping pan, and glued together a couple of spoons. A rag hanging over the spout of a can of oil was next visited, setting it on fire, so that the can had to be thrown out, and demolishing things generally. It then took a backward course and spent itself in Weightman's cistern. No one in the house felt the shock very severely, but Miss Lizzie Stiles, living on Washington street, was knocked from her chair, and Mr. John Schooley, who was going up Hudson street, when near the cedars was knocked on his knees, and for some minutes was quite stunned. Mr. C. W. Mutchler, who saw the flash, said it was in the form of a ball, and exploded about six feet above the house.---- Easton Dispatch.

My Note: This is from an 1875 newspaper. Apparently this was a single powerful bolt of lightning that went through two homes, and produced a shockwave that knocked people down outside. Incredible.

The Dark Side Of Woody

We go to the movies and we see people on the screen who we can idolize as heroes or sentimentalize with as friends. But we often forget that the person on screen we adore so much is just a character in a story potrayed by a real person. A person with flaws like you and me. Sometimes even our dearest, most beloved idols have a dark side. This is one such story. A toy story.

We all know him and love him as Woody. The simple man with down to earth morals and values that make the natural leader of his toy peers.

That boyish charm and vulnerability that make him the affectionate object of every woman's, or girl's, heart.

But sadly, there's another side to Woody. Behind the camera he is simply Bob "Stick" Sonofabitz, actor. And truth be told, Bob Sonofabitz is not a very nice or likeable guy. As the following pictures show, celebrity star power and iconic status were too much for Stick to handle, and he quickly fell into a life of debauchery behind the scenes.

Although it started out innocent enough with pranks and crude jokes, it soon devolved into a more 'hardcore' lifestyle.

And of course, as with so many other Hollywood shooting stars, this life in the fast lane would lead to a tragic end.

Only time will tell if Bob Sonofabitz, who some say was simply a flawed man searching for his place in the world, will be remembered as the beloved Woody or the soiled and sordid Stick. Search your heart and decide for yourself.

Justice Has Been Served

Osama bin Laden is DEAD!

Only a few months away from the 10th anniversary of the 9-11 attacks that left 3,000 Americans dead, the evil man behind that crime is dead. This is joyous news for Americans. It is at the core of our beliefs and values that criminals be brought to justice for the crimes they commit. Especially so in the case of murder. His death at the hands of American soldiers reaffirms that belief. Justice was served.

Appreciate Those Who Love You

Love is not unconditional. It does not have to be given to someone just because of bloodlines, or religious vows, or other reasons that bond us to another. Love has to be given to be reciprocated. Remember that each day. Remind your family that you love them. Remind your friends that you appreciate them. And show your pets the affection that their loyalty deserves.
